Reading Group Recap – Day One

Our reading partner time in the afternoon brought so much context to our experience at Hope Community School, and our overall trip to Ndola. Jamie and Precious had a beautiful bond from the start. Precious lives at Hope House, the home for orphaned children on the Hope Community School campus. The opportunity to read with the Spark travelers is only given to 20 children, and the children selected saw this experience and practice with their English reading as a privilege. Most of the children at Hope speak Bemba as their first language, and the reading program provides a unique chance to sit one on one with a partner and read together. Watching Jamie and Precious read together was moving, and I know they started a lasting friendship from the first day we arrived.
